Matej Caric, the mastermind behind Komarija Oil, found inspiration in the connection between the product and the message it conveys. The well-organized agricultural land of Istria, with its distinct parcel edges marked by trees and dry-walls, served as a clear source of inspiration for Caric.
"It's important to make something fresh and different from all the oil labels we have seen until now," said Caric's clients, who are deeply passionate about their land. In response to their request, Caric designed a logo for their company based on the fields in which they grow their olive trees. The label features a three-dimensional relief texture on the lines, adding a tactile element and enhancing its visual impact. Additionally, the label includes markings of the region's old churches with a red cross, paying homage to the cultural heritage of Istria.
Caric ensured that the production process of the label aligned with ecological principles. The paper used for the label is primarily made from eco-recycled paper, and the colors and wax used to create the three-dimensional textures hold eco-sustainable certificates.
The Komarija Oil label measures L 160 mm x W 132 mm, making it suitable for various bottle sizes. Its unique design and grip make it not only visually appealing but also practical for selling. The tactile texture of the label also aids visually impaired individuals in recognizing the product through touch.
The design project for Komarija Oil began in July 2013 in Pazin, Istria. It involved extensive research on olive oil varieties, regional aspects of cultivation, and the shape of leaves and fruits. Caric also delved into the exploration of fonts and experimented with computer programs to find the perfect design form. The project was finalized and produced in December 2013, remaining true to its roots in Istria.
Komarija Oil has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2014, a prestigious accolade that celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations. This award acknowledges the integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
With Komarija Oil, Matej Caric has created a label that goes beyond design rules and principles. It is a testament to the emotional connection between the clients and their olive trees, paying the ultimate respect to the fields of their success and accurately representing the region where Komarija grows its olive trees. The label captures the essence of Istria and the passion behind the production of this exceptional olive oil.
